The Stover Chamber of Commerce is holding a Stover Fest on Second Street Saturday, Oct. 18.

While a few things may have changed over the years, it is still a place and time for folks to gather and celebrate the beginning of autumn.

The cost is $85 per person, which includes transportation to Branson and dinner in Springfield after the show.

The city had yet to purchase the acreage down the road for a park, so the fair 24 years ago came together piece by piece. Today, of course the fairgrounds is the centerpiece of the city which has been expanded and improved with each passing year. Improvements there have transformed the Hillbilly Fair into the cornerstone event on the WestSide of the Lake of the Ozarks.

“Area business owners had wanted to bring a sanctioned power boat race to the Lake of the Ozarks for a long time,” states race promoter Merlyn Vandervort, owner of the Horny Toad Entertainment Complex. “We presented  the national championships here in 2007 and this year’s race weekend will be just phenomenal.”

In August, the team competed against some of the best boats and drivers in the world in Thunder on the Gulf, winning their OSSCX class and placing third overall.

The Ozark Jazz Society is sponsoring an evening of grand ballroom dancing to the tunes of jazz greats, as presented by the renowned Lonny Lynn’s dance band.
